Food Blog Spotlight - Serious Eats

What happens when one of New York's most famous foodies invites a few of his pals to join a new online venture celebrating all that is delicious? Some pretty Serious Eats, that's what. The brain child of New York Eats author Ed Levine, Serious Eats showcases prominent food bloggers (Adam Kuban, Meg Hourihan, Alaina Browne, and Adam Roberts), chefs, and critics. Including a blog (Required Eating), a reader forum (Talk), features, and videos, Serious Eats has something for everyone interested in food.
My favorite features of Serious Eats are the basics videos with chef Daniel Boulud, his Braised beef with horseradish and Chicken wings with pancetta, and articles by the Amateur Gourmet Adam Roberts. In his latest piece, Adam writes,
If I decide to make something that requires stock, I never have time to make it from scratch. And, so far, I've been living a very happy life as a consumer of store-bought chicken stock. Until tonight. Tonight I looked at myself in the mirror and I said, "Adam, do you want to spend the rest of your life trading integrity for convenience? Stop being a stock whore. You need to pull yourself together and make this dinner count. Look up some recipes, go to the store, and have the time and patience to do it right."
(Adam, see the tips here on how to make chicken stock, and save the boxes for emergencies.)

Alaina Browne, Adam Kuban, Elise, and Adam Roberts
Lest you think that the Serious Eats team aren't really serious about food, let me assure you they are! I was in New York City last week and had the pleasure of having lunch with the Serious Eats team in Chelsea. It was great to see Alaina Browne of A Full Belly again, who recently relocated back to NYC, after a stint in San Francisco. I finally met two of my favorite long time food blogging compatriots, Adam Kuban of the famous pizza blog Slice and Adam Roberts. (Adam R calls me his blog "auntie", an honorific I'm proud to wear. See Adam's write-up on our lunch.) I met the famous man himself, Ed Levine, who is as delightful in person as he is on his site.

Ed Levine with Marc Buzzio
of Salumeria Biellese
Here's a hint. If Ed Levine suggests to you a place to eat in NYC, go there! In our case it was Biricchino, the Italian restaurant connected to Salumeria Biellese, one of the most acclaimed artisinal salumi (that's a fancy way of saying "salami") makers in the country. The salumi is out of this world; Salumeria's Marc Buzzio sent me home with some to take to my father. And even my father, who declared "you know I don't like salami, right?" loves it. Many thanks to Ed Levine and the Serious Eats crew for a seriously great lunch. If you haven't yet seen Serious Eats, check it out. (More photos)
