New Domain, New Look

Hello everyone! I'm pleased to announce that there are some changes afloat here at Simply Recipes, which I hope you will like as much as we do.
First, Simply Recipes finally now has its own domain name, SimplyRecipes.com. I actually bought the domain name several years ago, and even trademarked it, but have been reluctant to move the site over to the new domain lest the move disrupt the site's searchability in Google. My web designer Jesse and I have been plotting for years, and working for months, to move the site and as of today we have started the transfer. Before today if you typed in simplyrecipes.com into your browser, you would be redirected to elise.com/recipes. But now, simplyrecipes.com has its own page, its own little corner of the Internet. Today, there's only one page at simplyrecipes.com; all of the other pages on the site are still at elise.com/recipes. Over the next few months Jesse and I will be moving the site over to the new domain, section by section. This is an approach that is recommended by Google to minimize disruption in the site showing up in Google's search engine, so I hope it works.
In the meantime, it would really help if you have a website and could link to us at http://simplyrecipes.com. That will help let the search engines know that we really do exist at our new home. If you already link to Simply Recipes, but at the old domain, I would very much appreciate it if you would change the link to reflect the new simplyrecipes.com domain name (thanks!). Update: Those using iGoogle or Google Reader need not make any changes. The RSS feeds haven't been changed to the new domain yet, and when they are, the old feeds will be automatically redirected to the new.
Second, if you go to SimplyRecipes.com you will notice a site design that looks a bit different from what you might be used to here.

There actually is some method to this madness. For technical reasons, at least for a few weeks until Google notices us at the new domain, we need to publish two versions of the main page of the site, and those versions need to be clearly different from each other. So, I thought I would take this opportunity to try out a new design and to get your feedback. For now you can still view Simply Recipes by going to elise.com/recipes and you can also view the site at simplyrecipes.com. The design of the new domain is not fixed in stone. It is a work in progress so I would love to get your comments about what you like and what you don't like with the new design. My goal is to make it easier to navigate, read, and digest. (This is a food site, was that a pun?) The good news is that my soon to be 79-yr old dad likes the new site. He thinks the category sidebar is easier to use and I agree. I'm not so sure on the thumbnails (smaller photos) of the recipes, but the benefit is that you get to more quickly scan to see what has been recently added.
So please, if you have a moment, take a look at the new design and let us know what you think. The more specific you are in what it is you like or not, the better. Thanks!
Never miss a recipe!

The new site looks great! I use a gadget on Google and I just looked to see if you had a new one up yet... for now I guess I will use the old one. :)
Yep, one thing at a time. When the site does totally switch over it should be pretty seamless. Google will just take the feed from the new URL. ~Elise
