Yeah I agree Le Creuset is expensive, but its worth saving up for - I am an owner of Le Creuset both old and new. The old being a couple of cassaroles (dutch ovens) that I inherited from my mother - they have already given at least 40 years of service and are as perfect as the first day they were bought! In that time you will probably have bought, used and wasted enough aluminium saucepans to buy you 3 times as much Le Creuset!

I can tell you how fond I am of Le Creuset pots. I come from France where Le Creuset is a legend. My mum still uses the same brown Le Creuset pot from 30 years ago, which was passed on to her by her mum. Last year, I could not resist and while in Paris, bought "a wok on stand" by them, to be used as a Japanese fondue set. And last, I also own their Tajine, which is a marvellous ustensil when it comes to any oven long-cooking dish, for all spices to be infused. I highly recommend!

I found it funny how the color you buy determines the price! Thanks for the heads up on this Elise... my Valentine just ordered us 2 3/4 qt of love :)

can someone tell me how to pronounce the name Creuset. Is it 'crew-set'? 'crew-say'? ???

Thanks!
Dee

It's "Crew-Zay..."

Close. The true pronunciation (if you don't want to get laughed at in France) is Cruh-zay. The first syllable rhymes with "duh." HTH

Do you think this could be used for a frittata type dish or would I need a flatter bottom? My only other La Creuset is the Dutch oven, which I love. Thanks, Alice

Hi Alice,
I wouldn't use this to make a frittata, unless it is a small one. You need something wider and shorter.

question: i have a vintage le creuset dutch oven in a turquoise-y blue that i found at a flea market for $5 (they clearly didn't know what they were selling!). the bottom inside is all pitted and a bit rusty ... it looks like someone may have made a disasterous batch of popcorn. anybody have any ideas about re-enamelling? or is it okay to continue to use it? i wrote to the company but they had no suggestions, other than to buy a new one.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm a big believer in LeCreuset, especially when it's on sale! I can specifically vouch for that skillet. I've had mine for years and still use it all the time.

Lodge makes an equally nice french oven. The 5 qt usually goes for about $100, and can be found on Amazon.com and Target.com.

QVC has a great collection (search on Basix by Staub on iqvc.com ) that is comparatively inexpensive and is a Le Crueset twin. I got a 6 Qt Dutch Oven w/trivet for under $70 bucks when it was the value of the day. It's about $72 now.

Don't drop the LeCreuset. I droped a 4 qt pot and the cast iron cracked! I still have the lid though and it will probably last a few lifetimes.

JC Penney online also carries Le Creuset and they have an even better deal on the soup pot right now.
